Remarks

The Thurne Restricted Class sailing cruiser, a cabin version of the Yare & Bure One Design (YBOD) or 'White Boat', is known for her impeccable sailing performance, both single handed or crewed. With her GRP hull and timber superstructure, she combines the advantages of modern materials and low maintenance, with the grace and beauty of a traditional Norfolk Broads river cruiser.

Despite her somewhat diminutive size, the Thurne Class provides very usable accommodation for two, with separate heads and galley space, lifting roof, and the usual 'second room' provided by the Broads cockpit awning when moored up for the night.

With so few Thurne Class yachts ever having been built, Thurne class 'projects' come on the market very infrequently (in fact, almost never!), and with her GRP hull, the boat building skills required to carry out a restoration are far reduced from those required for a typical Broads yacht renovation. This Thurne Class was purchased by the vendor some 12 years ago, and regretfully she has remained ashore in shed storage since 2013. She is therefore in need of (as a minimum) a full cosmetic overhaul, plus a new transom (although a very temporary repair could perhaps be made to facilitate a month or two afloat) and a partial new rubbing strake (starboard forward half), and possibly new berth cushions (or perhaps just covers), to bring her up to spec. She at present has a rather uncomely transom mounted outboard bracket and single lever control, both of which the vendor had always intended to change/remove and which could be vastly improved upon, so as to reinstate this lovely little Broads yacht's original grace and poise! The inclusion of a trailer in the sale offers the possibility of carrying out the required restoration conveniently in a home garage or barn, as well as the potential to reduce future winter storage costs.

An unusual opportunity, and one that does undeniably demand a certain amount of DIY skills and time, but which will undoubtedly reward the new owner and will result in a very desirable little Broads sailing cruiser.
