Remarks

Retaining her original full length mahogany planking from stem to stern and varnish finished above the water line she is in great condition. Professionally restored in 1972 by one of the Broads great boatbuilders she has been professionally maintained since that time. Much loved and in the same ownership for the last 40 years where she has been well cared for she is now for sale owing to her owners advancing years. She has been stored in a boat shed for the past few years and will now need to take up before use.

A well travelled and sailed vessel, she has taken part in several overseas regattas in Denmark, The Baltic, Germany, The Netherlands and Northern Ireland. For this reason her original trailer has been upgraded to a more substantial purpose built single axle trailer that can now handle the European motorways and especially the German Autobahns effortlessly. For additional travelling ease she comes with lifting slings and a galvanised lifting frame.

Class history: Linton Hope, naval architect to the King of Belgium, designed the Broads One Design (Broads OD or BOD) at the request of members of the Royal Norfolk and Suffolk Yacht Club in 1900 with the aim of creating a yacht that was both capable of sailing inshore off Lowestoft, and also suited to sailing on the Broads. The first class race is recorded as having been held on Whit Monday 1901 at Oulton Broad. 31 boats were built in wood over a period of 38 years, with more being to added to the class since 1987 constructed in GRP. The class now numbers 88 in total and remains very active today, with the design having proven itself to be both very safe and capable at sea, and very competitive when raced against other Broads classes. BODs are affectionately known as "Brown Boats" due to their beautiful varnished hulls.
