Remarks

This Broads One Design (aka BOD or 'Brown Boat') has had only one owner from new and is at present lying at the vendor's home on the south coast in Hampshire. Initially sailed for some years here on the Norfolk Broads, she has more latterly sailed on the Solent! She has however been very lightly used in recent years (merely just a few summer race meets each season) and she is now for sale due to lack of available sailing time. She comes complete with a recently serviced road trailer, enabling easy relocation for the new owner, plus an outboard bracket and backrests to aid comfort and convenience when cruising (or simply when the wind is either lacking or in an unfavourable direction!). Understood to be in good order throughout, she was antifouled earlier in 2021 and is ready to sail!

CLASS NOTES: Linton Hope, naval architect to the King of Belgium, designed the Broads One Design at the request of members of the Royal Norfolk and Suffolk Yacht Club in 1900 with the aim of creating a yacht that was both capable of sailing inshore off Lowestoft and also suited to sailing on the Broads, and the first class race is recorded as having been held on Whit Monday 1901 at Oulton Broad. 31 boats were built in wood over a period of 38 years, with more being to added to the class since 1987 constructed in GRP. The class now numbers 80 in total and remains very active today, with the design having proven itself to be both very safe and capable at sea, and very competitive when raced against other Broads classes.
