Remarks

The Folkboat is an iconic design which has been copied and enhanced by yacht builders throughout Europe and beyond. This example was built near Hamburg, Germany, in the mid 1960s, and has cruised in Scotland with her previous owner and now cruises the East Coast with her current owner. She has generally been well maintained, but we understand that she would benefit from some minor works and maintenance to make her perfect (as is reflected in her asking price). For example, her cockpit and coachroof would benefit from further varnishing and, as perviously noted, the decks require some small repairs. Some of her navigation gear also requires minor repairs or replacement. Her hull is fair and shows no movement or deteriation around the fastening screw heads on the outside of the planking, and the vendor informs us that she does not take on any water when afloat. With a little TLC this could be very smart and elegant Folkboat, capable of a good turn of speed. Currently lying ashore but due to be launched Spring 2014.

Please note, the trailer shown in the photos is not included in the asking price, but may be available to the purchaser subject to negotiation.

Notes from May 2006 survey report:

Surveyor's conclusion:

In general found Chindit to be fairly good example of the folkboat class of yacht. She appears to be largely sound, being reasonably well equipped and maintained to a fairly high standard. There are some localised areas requiring attention, but most of these could be dealt with over period of time as part of the maintenance programme.

Points to attended to to at this stage include Gas installation, fuel and gas lines, checking forestay attachment tang, fitting lanyard to aft locker lid, overhauling and blanking off redundant cockpit drain seacocks, replacing short section of exhaust hose in stern locker, placing in date flares aboard, securing batteries, and the normal winter maintenance jobs including skin fittings and doubling up hose clips as necessary and checking stern gland.

Hand written comment under by the then owner in 2006:

All points to be attended have been done except the gas cooker which has been removed and a meths spirit stove installed.

A further comment from the current owner:

A replacement gas stove has now been fitted with new pipes and external gas bottle stored on aft deck in cradle.
